Technical support - Jeppesen Internet Flight Planner (JIFP)

Built on the strength of PC-based FliteStar and AOPA Real Time Flight Planner (RTFP), JIFP is a small application that is downloaded to your PC. Using an Internet connection, you’ll access our server to perform your VFR and IFR flight planning.

Please make sure you are signing into JIFP under the same account the order was entered for. If you are still receiving the message, contact the Jeppesen Sales Support team to ensure your JIFP order has been processed. The contact information for Jeppesen Sales Support can be found on the left side of the Contact Us Form.

If you are receiving this error when opening JIFP, please try uninstalling and reinstalling the JIFP application. Since your aircraft and routes are stored on the JIFP server, you will not lose any of this information when you uninstall JIFP. You can uninstall JIFP by going to the Windows Control Panel. To reinstall JIFP, click on the Download JIFP link at the top of this web page.

If the error message continues to appear after reinstalling the application, please make sure any Internet security, firewalls, or anti-virus programs are either disabled or configured to allow JIFP to access the Internet. The application utilizes Internet ports 80 and 1986 to connect to the JIFP servers. It may be necessary to configure your firewall or Internet security applications so these ports are not blocked. If your network has a router, gateway, or other networking device that also functions as a firewall, it may be necessary to configure the firewall so that Internet ports 80 and 1986 are not blocked.

You can use the Jeppesen System Diagnostics Tool to test the connections to the JIFP servers, as well as ports 80 and 1986. Please click on the Jeppesen System Diagnostics Tool link below to download and install it. Once you have opened the program, select JIFP / AOPA RTFP  to test the connection.

If, after registering your account on the Jeppesen.com web site, your aircraft and/or routes are missing in JIFP, please contact Jeppesen Technical Support for assistance. Our contact information can be found on the left side of this web page.

If you receive this message when creating a route, the JIFP server may not be able to compute the route based on the criteria you entered. It can also occur if your departure or destination airports are within a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) and you have the TFR avoidance option selected. TFR avoidance can be enabled or disabled by selecting Tools - Options - Routing.

This can occur if Internet Explorer is not set as the default web browser on the computer.

To set Internet Explorer as the default browser:

1. Open Internet Explorer and click on Tools > Internet Options.
2. Click on the Programs tab.
3. Place a check mark in the box at the bottom of this screen that is labeled "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser."
4. Click Apply and then OK, and exit out of Internet Explorer.
5. Restart your computer and open Internet Explorer again.
6. Accept any messages about Internet Explorer not being the default browser (Click "Yes").
7. Exit Internet Explorer and open JIFP. Test the Help menu items again.

If you choose the monthly billing option, you will receive an email with a credit authorization form attached that you must authorize before access to JIFP can be established. Once this step has been completed, an email containing relevant access information will be sent to you automatically. If you choose the annual purchase option, the credit authorization form is not required.

Pilots with a valid U.S. medical certificate can obtain a free DUATs access code and password from either or both of the two FAA approved DUATs providers (DTC or CSC).

Jeppesen Internet Flight Planner provides access to an online database of 100 different aircraft. These aircraft can be used as is, or you can customize one to closely match the specific operating parameters of your airplane. You can also create an aircraft model from scratch.

Any aircraft you've customized or created are stored on the JIFP server, so they will always be available if you access JIFP from another computer.

If you are behind a corporate or personal firewall, you will need to have access through the following ports for your weather provider:

* CSC DUATS access: port 80
* CSC DUATS access (alternate): port 23
* DTC DUATS access: port 8096
* Jeppesen Weather access: port 24901

If you are using JIFP on a corporate network, please contact your company's IT support group for assistance with configuring the firewall to allow access to these ports. If you are using JIFP at your home, please refer to any documentation or online support your firewall manufacturer has provided.
