Jeppesen DynamicLicensing

A user friendly, cost effective and flexible ENC Service

The Jeppesen DynamicLicensing service is a user friendly and cost-effective method for licensing ENC charts in Jeppesen SENC format.

Overview

The Jeppesen DynamicLicensing service ensures immediate access to ENC licenses whenever they are needed. The portfolio can be restricted to a minimum coverage and tailored to meet the individual end-user needs, thus reducing costs. Immediate access to new ENCs is restricted to the requested subscription Zone or Area but this can be expanded whenever required.

Subscription

At subscription start, a contract is signed by the customer. The contract regulates important issues such as the subscription area (Zones and Areas), Credit Limit, Invoice Limit, Invoice Period and Reporting Interval. Based on Jeppesen's well-known Zones and Areas, the end-user subscribes to an area that covers the actual trading area or planned route. However, the establishment of a subscription will not initially give the end-user licenses to any ENC-cells. The subscription area can be extended whenever required.

Licensing

The end-user has 2 options to enable licenses to new cells:

1. When the ECDIS system is set to Navigation Mode, licenses to new cells are automatically generated as soon as the vessel enters a new cell. This ensures that the customer always has licenses for the ENCs for the surroundingacharts of the vessel's position.
2. When the ECDIS system is in Planning Mode, licenses to new cells are activated by panning or zooming into a new cell. Since the licensing process in planning mode is automatic, the customer will be informed about this every time they are entering into this mode.

Please note that DynamicLicensing can be switched on or off whenever required.

The minimum default license period for individual cells is 3 months.

Credit limit

To prevent uncontrolled licensing costs (licenses to cells which are not required), a credit limit has to be set. The size of the credit limit should be based on estimated yearly costs for the vessel. When accessing new cells, the licensing costs for the actual cells will be subtracted and the Credit Limit will be reduced correspondingly. The limit can be extended whenever needed.

Updating

DynamicLicensing's updating system is based on the existing Jeppesen Update Service Online. This online service includes all NtM updates. New charts and new editions of charts have to be received on DVD, or by using the Online+ update service to ensure that the databases are fully updated. A pop-up reminder will inform users that they must update on a regular basis.

Reporting

The user does not have to manually report ENC usage to Jeppesen. When connecting to the Jeppesen Update Server for updating the charts, a full report on how many licenses have been opened is automatically generated and sent. This forms the basis of the next invoice.
