The Jeppesen Mobile TC App for iPad is helping the Royal Air Force Red Arrows team simplify the complex process of accessing critical airport chart information when planning for global aerobatics performances.  Reducing reliance on paper terminal charts and procedures through use of Jeppesen Mobile TC has helped the UK-based Red Arrows team operate more efficiently, especially when away from the team’s base of operations at RAF Scampton.

“Jeppesen Mobile TC has helped the Red Arrows team to carry out flight planning while on the road and has transformed the way in which we can access vital airport chart information, particularly in the common event of us having to select a different airport than planned,” said Flight Lieutenant Zane Sennett, Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, The Red Arrows.  “With the iPad, access to Jeppesen charts through Mobile TC is portable and we have the ability to benefit from 3G connectivity where we have it on the ground.”

The Red Arrows team spends a great deal of time on the road, where in-transit flight planning between aerobatic performances previously depended on paper-based charting material.  Depending on delivery of multiple paper-based charts from the postal service at points around the world would lead to the team sometimes holding out of date charts, as flight planning occurs weeks in advance.  Jeppesen Mobile TC has alleviated these issues, as all required arrival, departure and airport information is available on demand.

“The Royal Air Force Red Arrows team provides thrills for many who attend their aerobatic performances around the world and Jeppesen is proud to help the team safely and efficiently travel to their global destinations using Jeppesen Mobile TC,” said Tim Huegel, director, Jeppesen Aviation Portfolio Management.  “Jeppesen mobile solutions help the Red Arrows team and operators reduce paper in the cockpit and provide convenient flight planning operations while on the go.”

Jeppesen Mobile TC provides additional benefit to the Red Arrows team when they are diverted to unplanned locations and pre-planned paper charts become irrelevant.  The App provides the team with all relevant airport chart information needed for a change in plan.  Jeppesen Mobile TC currently displays industry-leading charts, terminal procedures and airport diagrams, directed by the touch of a finger.  Pilots using Jeppesen Mobile TC have noted that they are particularly pleased with the App’s ease of use, simplicity to manage, speed and display clarity on iPad.

With successful testing achieved according to proper authority requirements, Jeppesen Mobile TC allows pilots to use the App as an alternative to paper aeronautical charts and as the sole reference for electronic charts, even during taxi, takeoff and landing.  Additional App flight information capabilities are planned for introduction in the near future by Jeppesen.
