Navigation expert Jeppesen has announced that Digital Yacht, Ltd. is the latest OEM chart plotter manufacturer to take advantage of C-MAP by Jeppesen navigation solutions. Based in the United Kingdom with U.S. offices in Newburyport, Massachusetts, Digital Yacht manufactures a full line of sophisticated marine electronics systems, including the innovative new SmarterChart 500 Series of chart plotters designed to use C-MAP by Jeppesen MAX charts. These products made their European debut at the London Boat Show in January. They will make their North American debut at the Miami International Boat Show and will be available at the show.
“We are very excited to be partnering with such a respected, well-established manufacturer as Digital Yacht,” said Scott MacDonald, Jeppesen Market Manager, The Americas. “This manufacturer specializes in technology-based products engineered to make life onboard safer and more enjoyable for boaters. This is very much in keeping with Jeppesen’s mission and the reputation of C-MAP by Jeppesen cartography around the world. We’re also confident that this new family of chart plotter systems clearly meets the needs of boaters who require smaller displays and will be well received,” added MacDonald.
Digital Yacht is debuting three compact navigation systems that set a new standard for functionality and performance in this size/price range, including the only 5-inch display unit with the added safety of integral AIS (Automatic Identification System). Each chart plotter features full MAX compatibility using a C-card chart slot. C-MAP MAX cartography gives the SmarterChart 500 Series power to display a variety of important features including Jeppesen’s exclusive Guardian Alarm anti-grounding technology, Perspective View for a “bird’s eye” view of charts, Flashing NavAids, Aerial Photos/Diagrams for improved situational awareness and exclusive Detailed Marina Charts and Port Info to assist boaters voyaging far from home.
With compact overall dimensions and a 5-inch sunlight viewable LCD display, the SmarterChart 500 Series is designed to fit a wide variety of boats and boating budgets. Small enough to install easily on a center console or sailboat, powerful enough to serve as the primary navigator for mid-sized cruisers and trawlers, the SmarterChart 500 is offered in three configurations. Boaters can choose from a stand-alone chart plotter, chart plotter with built-in 50/200kHz sounder or the unique combination chart plotter with internal AIS receiver.
In addition to these three new C-MAP by Jeppesen MAX-based navigation systems, Digital Yacht provides the marine industry with a range of technologically advanced products designed for the onboard environment including AIS receivers/transponders, multifunction instruments, GPS sensors, marine PC systems and Wi-Fi access products.
“These new chart plotters are an ideal fit with our existing product line, providing the high level of quality, performance and value boaters associate with the Digital Yacht brand,” said Paul Sumpner, Chief Technology Officer of Digital Yacht, Ltd. “They also represent an important step for us into the navigation electronics market, an area of our business we plan to expand on even more in the future,” he added.
