Navigation expert Jeppesen today announced plans for the global debut of its revolutionary C-MAP 4D cartography on Geonav Multi-Function Display navigation systems. Units displaying the cartography will be unveiled first to the industry at the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) convention being held Sept. 29-Oct. 2 in Seattle, Washington. End users will be able to see the actual units with the C-MAP 4D cartography starting with European consumers at the Genoa International Boat Show (Oct. 2-10 in Genoa, Italy) and then American boaters at the 2010 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (Oct. 28-Nov. 1 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida).
C-MAP 4D is a “customized solutions” concept in electronic charting that gives boaters unparalleled control over their navigation in coastal, intercoastal and inland waterways. Using one cartridge, boaters can select from two choices of content to best meet their boating needs. MAX content includes all the features of popular C-MAP MAX cartography, such as detailed harbor charts, C-Marina port databases, Explorer® Charts in the U.S. and more. The full 4D content includes the same data as MAX, along with the latest in navigation features, such as:
3D Chart View: C-MAP 4D provides boaters with the most detailed 3D height and depth cartography database worldwide, for an electronic navigation experience that is as close as possible to the real world environment.
Satellite Images With 2D/3D Overlay: High-resolution satellite images can be overlaid onto detailed 2D and 3D cartography for the ultimate in situational awareness when navigating coastal and island waters.
Digital Raster Charts With 2D/3D Overlay: Combining the traditional with the truly innovative, C-MAP 4D can overlay digital raster charts over 2D or 3D shaded relief. This feature delivers a new boating experience for navigators who prefer the traditional look of nautical paper charts.
Guardian Alarm: This professional-grade feature lets the navigator select a minimum safe depth for his vessel, then looks ahead on the charts to alert the operator to sandbars, reefs, shallowing conditions and other dangers on the intended course.
While C-MAP 4D provides boaters with the most advanced 2D and 3D charting experience, it is the 4th Dimension — time — that makes this cartography revolutionary. Boaters can select the content they want and choose when to purchase additional Value-Added data, such as high-resolution bathymetric charts, to enhance their boating experience. This flexibility makes C-MAP 4D the only electronic charts capable of growing with a boater’s needs.
“The superior charting features and exclusive properties of C-MAP 4D are an ideal match for the technologically advanced Geonav navigation systems,” said Jeppesen Light Marine Division Director James Detar. “With large, crystal clear displays, intuitive user interfaces and powerful processors, the Geonav series optimizes many of the feature-rich content and advanced functions of C-MAP 4D. We’re very proud to bring this powerful combination to American cruisers, sailors and fishermen.”
The Geonav series offers boaters four new C-MAP 4D compatible systems — the 12-inch display G12 and 10-inch G10, along with fully networked GIS12 and GIS10 models. This product launch also makes Geonav the newest addition to Jeppesen’s prestigious family of chart plotter manufacturers, joining some of the biggest names in the American marine electronics market.
Boaters who want to be among the first to see the combined power of C-MAP 4D and the Geonav Multi-Function Display navigation systems can check them out at the Jeppesen or Geonav exhibits at the NMEA convention, Genoa International Boat Show or Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. A wealth of information on C-MAP 4D and compatible navigation systems can also be found on a recently launched website (www.jeppesen.com/CMAP4D) dedicated to the C-MAP 4D charting experience.
