The Norwegian International Boat Show marks the first availability of Jeppesen’s breakthrough C-MAP 4D cartography for the newly released Geonav G12 Multi-Function Display (MFD) navigation system. Available for a special price of only €299, boaters can enjoy several popular features in the full 4D content, such as 3-D views, high resolution satellite imagery and 3-D raster chart overlay.

C-MAP 4D is a new technology that gives boaters control over their navigation solutions in ways never before possible. Boaters can now enjoy charts ala carte functionality, allowing them to choose the coverage area and content they need. Boaters can select the coverage area, Local or Wide, and within the same cartridge, the content segment, Max or 4D, that best meets their boating needs. For example, customers can select Max content, which includes most of the popular features of C-MAP MAX, or they can select the new 4D content. If, at a later date, a customer who purchases the Max content decides to upgrade the cartridge to 4D, he needs only to purchase and unlock the additional data on the same cartridge. And, as with all C-MAP by Jeppesen cartography, C-MAP 4D is continually updated to ensure boaters have access to the most up-to-date data for safe navigation.

In addition to the three-dimensional representation on land and sea, the 4D content in C-MAP 4D includes True-View & Photo features, providing high-resolution coastal satellite imagery overlaid onto the most accurate and up-to-date vector data, plus thousands of exclusive photos for the most popular marinas and areas of interest. The Nautical Paper Chart on screen feature gives boaters “at-a-glance” information using raster charts overlaid on the multi-dimensional shaded relief for a new navigational experience.

“This will be a powerful new combination for European boaters,” said Michelle Buckalew, Jeppesen Senior Marketing Manager. “The advanced features of our C-MAP 4D cartography matched with the Geonav G12 with clear and large format display will set a new standard for electronic navigation” added Buckalew.

Jeppesen also used the Norwegian International Boat Show to announce expanded lake and inland waterway coverage on four key Scandinavian C-MAP electronic chart titles. The most significant enhancement to these charts is the addition of the Telemark Canal, an important and historical waterway that connects Skien to Dalen in Southern Norway. The canal links several long lakes through a series of eight locks, traversing an altitude difference of 72 meters. The Telemark Canal is an important throughway for passenger vessels, recreational boats and light commercial traffic.

As part of Jeppesen’s expanded inland coverage for the area, the Telemark Canal has been added to the following C-MAP chart titles:

  • MW6 C-MAP MAX MegaWide European Inland Waters
  • W85 C-MAP MAX Wide Baltic Sea and Denmark
  • WD85 C-MAP 4D Wide Baltic Sea and Denmark
  • W+8 C-MAP NT+ Wide Skagerrak, Goetheborg to Egersund
