Navigation expert Jeppesen has teamed up with California’s popular Coastside Fishing Club to release the 2010 version of its popular Coastside Fishing Club electronic chart. Developed with input and participation from one of the nation’s largest fishing organizations, this exclusive electronic chart is designed to help saltwater anglers fish more successfully in Northern and Central California’s inshore and offshore waters.
The 2010 Coastside Fishing Club chart is compatible with C-MAP MAX and NT+ charts, and a key feature is the addition of updated California Marine Protected Area (MPA) boundaries in the state’s North-Central Zone. In addition to these updates, Jeppesen depicts all California MPAs in a more user-friendly and uniform way on all charts for the region. All State Marine Reserves are now encoded as “Fishing Prohibition Areas”, displaying a crossed-out fish symbol wallpaper inside the boundaries. State Marine Conservation Areas — which allow certain types of fishing — are now encoded as “Fishing Restriction Areas” and are displayed with red boundaries on the chart. By using the chart plotter cursor, fishermen can call up specific regulations on allowable fish species, gear and methods for any particular area.
Having these closed and restricted area boundaries displayed on a boat’s chartplotter is an important advantage for California anglers, as is the ability to view specific regulations for each area. The Coastside Fishing Club chart gives anglers confidence to fish productive waters near these closed zones while staying within the law. It also keeps them aware of all restrictions in State Marine Conservation Areas. The MPA updates are also included in the latest release of all navigation charts for the region.
Other features that are unique to the Jeppesen Coastside Fishing Club chart include:
- dozens of top fishing areas for crabbing and angling, with guidelines for species including tuna, salmon, striped bass, rockfish, halibut and sand dabs
- local names for fishing areas and other points of reference
- clearly marked caution areas (such as bottom trawler zones)
- special navigation guidelines for areas that Coastside Fishing Club has identified as hazardous.
- Users of C-MAP MAX compatible chartplotters will have the added benefit of standard features like Dynamic Tides & Currents. Experienced anglers recognize that water movement strongly influences fishing for many West Coast saltwater species, and viewing this information on the chart can be a powerful tool in the angler’s arsenal.
In addition to a wealth of exclusive fishing-related content, the Coastside Fishing Club chart provides complete navigation data for 600 miles of coastline ranging from Coos Bay, Oregon to Point Conception, California, including San Francisco Bay, the California Delta and the Sacramento River. Detailed bottom contour data is provided out to 100 miles offshore, with total offshore coverage to 300 miles. The Coastside Fishing Club chart retails for $199 and is available in either standard C-card or SD-card format, for use with a wide range of chartplotters. The updated Coastside Fishing Club charts are NA-M608 (for MAX compatible chartplotters) and NA-C608 (for NT+ compatible chartplotters).
