Top striper anglers from across the Northeastern U.S. will be gathering this Fall to find out who’s “top gun” in the Jeppesen Marine Cape Cod Striper Showdown. Jeppesen Marine, with offices on the Cape, is title sponsor of this American Striper Association (ASA) sanctioned event.
This high-profile fishing competition is scheduled for September 19, 2009, with a mandatory captain’s meeting scheduled for the evening before. The beautiful waterfront facilities of the Osterville Anglers Club (OAC) will serve as headquarters and host for the tournament.
Entry for the tournament is $300 per boat if paid before September 18; teams can still sign up at the Captain’s Meeting for $325. Top ASA teams will be competing for a great prizes (including a total payout of $12,000 based on 50 boats) and crucial points in the competitive ASA Angler of the Year standings. The first place winner will receive $5,000 cash and a wall mount if he’s an ASA member ($2,500 if a non-member). Cash awards will be paid to the top five finishers. Annual dues for ASA membership are only $50, making it a very worthy investment for anglers participating in this event.
“Fall is a great time of the year for striper fishing on the Cape,” said Ken Cirillo, business development manager for Jeppesen Marine and OAC president. “Combine great big-fish opportunities with the best anglers from the local area and across the Northeast, and this is shaping up to be a very competitive and exciting event,” added Cirillo.
Cirillo, himself an avid striped bass fishermen and tournament angler, may have something to say about the eventual outcome of the competition. With his C-MAP equipped boat Magic based out of Osterville Anglers Club, Cirillo knows these home waters well, understands how to use his marine electronics to find and catch more fish and has taken more than his share of large striped bass.
In fact, Cirillo and his team of anglers finished third in the 1st Annual Cape Cod $5000, held recently at nearby Oysters Harbor. Cirillo finished less than two pounds behind the 1st Place winner Tom Pitassi, who took home a $5,000 check for his victory. Jeppesen Marine was also one of the major sponsors for this event, donating a variety of valuable prizes to competitors in the Cape Cod $5000.
