The latest version of Jeppesen Marine Vessel and Voyage Optimization Solution (VVOS), released this month, offers seamless integration with its worldwide C-Map electronic chart database.
The C-Map cartography integration enables a user to perform a quick visual safe navigation check of VVOS route alternatives to ensure the recommended route is safe and does not encounter any hazards to navigation. Once the safety check is completed and the VVOS operational route selected, a user can export the passage plan to an ECDIS or INS for execution. VVOS’ navigation safety check is unique in the industry and further benchmarks Jeppesen Marine’s industry leadership.
“This new feature combines the power of VVOS’ sophisticated optimization functionality with C-Map global electronic chart coverage to add an important layer of navigation safety to the fuel, seakeeping and weather/ocean optimization process,” said Capt. John D. Horner, Jeppesen Marine director of commercial operations. “With the C-Map interface, the master can view the optimized route directly on the electronic navigation charts, including large-scale coastal charts as well as open-ocean areas.”
VVOS is a highly advanced decision support tool designed to help the vessel master and shoreside managers plan and execute safe and efficient voyages, while avoiding heavy weather damage to the vessel and cargo. Unlike traditional re-active weather routing services, VVOS is a proactive ship-specific system that uses sophisticated proprietary optimization algorithms to factor in detailed ship seakeeping models, as well as sea state and ocean current forecasts, to reduce fuel consumption, minimize rolling and pitching motions and maintain on-time ETA performance with a least fuel route solution.
Additional features include enhancements to VVOS’ speed optimizations capabilities and the introduction of tidal current data for a total pilot-to-pilot route optimization in selected areas such as the English Channel and Malacca Straits.
