Avidyne Corporation, a leading provider of integrated flight deck and safety systems for general aviation aircraft, and Jeppesen, the industry-leading provider of flight deck information and optimization solutions, announced today that Avidyne’s CMax™ Electronic Approach Chart software, including Jeppesen’s worldwide coverage of airport diagrams, is now standard on all new EX500 and EX5000 Multi-Function Displays (MFDs). Avidyne will also enable current EX500 and EX5000 MFD customers to upgrade for a fraction of the previous cost for the CMax option.
“Avidyne and Jeppesen both recognize the incredible situational awareness benefit of electronic geo-referenced airport diagrams and charts in the cockpit,” said Thomas Wede, Jeppesen senior vice president and general manager, Aviation. “The ability to see your aircraft position directly on the chart dramatically reduces the potential for errors while taxiing.”
“The approach phase of IFR flight requires the highest pilot workload, and the potential for runway incursions–especially at unfamiliar airports–is a growing concern identified by the NTSB on its 2009 Most Wanted list,” said Patrick Herguth, Avidyne’s chief operating officer. “With CMax, IFR pilots will appreciate the added safety benefits and workload reduction of geo-referenced electronic approach charts and airport diagrams, while VFR pilots now have the benefit of worldwide airport diagrams.”
“Avidyne’s vision has always been about making avionics that are easier to use and that make flying safer,” said Avidyne president and CEO, Dan Schwinn. “We are pleased to continue our longstanding partnership with Jeppesen to further enhance safety and reduce runway incursions by providing broader customer access to crucial electronic approach charts and worldwide airport diagrams.”
