Tidewater Barge Lines of Vancouver, Washington has selected Jeppesen Workboat Navigator, an electronic chart system developed specifically for commercial vessels operating in coastal and inland waterways, for its fleet of 15 towboats. This latest in a string of new contracts will extend Jeppesen Marine’s exposure to the Columbia and Snake Rivers. Several customers operating throughout the Mississippi river system have already adopted the Jeppesen Marine system to improve the safety and efficiency of their operations.
John Pigott, Tidewater’s general manager said, “Through the use of advanced technology, Jeppesen Workboat Navigator delivers crucial information and supports Tidewater’s guiding principle of maintaining a leadership position within our industry. We have partnered with Jeppesen Marine because we firmly believe that providing our employees with the latest and best inland waterway navigation technologies will only serve to make our operation safer for all and more efficient for our customers.”
“We are very excited to partner with Tidewater Barge Lines to now get Jeppesen Workboat Navigator rolled out in the Pacific Northwest river systems,” said Ron Moody, senior product manager, Jeppesen Marine. “The technology has already proven itself on the Mississippi and we are confident that adoption rates around the country will continue to be strong.”
In operation since 1932, Tidewater is the largest inland marine transportation company in the Pacific Northwest. Tidewater has evolved from a barge line primarily handling wheat into a diversified transportation company serving the complex transportation needs of the Pacific Northwest.
Headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, Tidewater's operating area extends from the inland Port of Lewiston, Idaho to the Pacific Coast Port of Astoria, Oregon, a distance of 465 miles. The Columbia and Snake River system is a critical transportation corridor that provides cost effective and environmentally friendly barge transportation to the shippers of the Pacific Northwest. The people of Tidewater respect the privilege of operating on the waterways of the Pacific Northwest and believe the addition of Workboat Navigator will enhance their ability to safely deliver their customer’s cargo while protecting both the environment and the communities where they conduct business.
