Jeppesen Marine is bringing new levels of efficiency and safety to commercial shipping operators around the world by providing to the high seas market two new offerings—Jeppesen Marine Vessel and Voyage Optimization Services (VVOS) and Jeppesen Marine Pilotage Charts.
These products are part of a new commercial operations group within Jeppesen Marine which is being led by Captain John Horner. “You can improve the performance of a ship at any moment and over time through understanding the relationship between speed, power and the marine environment. About VVOS
VVOS is a set of operational decision support tools designed for use by both vessel masters and shore-side managers that will help them plan a safe and efficient voyage by taking into consideration key operational objectives, weather and actual ship response characteristics.
The advanced VVOS software allows customers to plan best passage by simulating and optimizing routes for a given arrival time with minimal fuel consumption while avoiding potentially hazardous weather.
VVOS also includes real-time vessel performance monitoring, recording and warning systems for excessive motions and accelerations. And at the end of the voyage, data on the VVOS Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) provides the necessary information for performance evaluations and refinements.
The expertise and product offerings attained as part of Jeppesen’s recent acquisition of Ocean Systems, Inc., a leading provider of vessel and voyage optimization solutions, will play a key role in the commercial operations group service strategy.
