Increase Situational Awareness

The modern military operating environment is more complex than ever.  With joint forces operating in a high threat, high tempo, and highly dynamic environment, the amount of information captured, disseminated, and required for use in decision-making is growing well beyond the overloaded pilot's ability to use it.  Couple this with the fact that a great number of forces are flying less-than-modern cockpits with very little means of getting vital information to the aircrew, and you have a critical situation that not only affects mission effectiveness, but can impact flight safety as well.

Jeppesen's Military EFB provides a suite of tools designed to enhance the pilot's situational awareness in all phases of flight.  Airport Moving Map, Military Moving Map (enroute), and Terminal Charts, are applications built by Jeppesen for the Military EFB environment.  We designed the tools specifically to present information graphically and in context to the aircrew.

Using Airport Moving Map and Military Moving Map in each phase of flight, aircrew can improve their situational awareness both on the ground and in flight while operating in unfamiliar or complex situations.  Both of these applications, through integration with the aircraft's 429 or 1553 bus, provide aircraft position on a ground or airborne moving map that is fully scalable and can be positioned "North Up" or "Heading Up" improving a pilot's understanding of his position both at an airport or in complex civil or tactical airspace.

The value of enhanced situational awareness provided by an EFB for the military user is greater mission effectiveness.  The pilot is able to use the Jeppesen moving maps, as well as similar tools integrated into the EFB framework as a quick source of validation of avionics information or instructions from controlling authorities.  Jeppesen has meticulously studied the most effective ways to convert large amounts of data into useable information.  The result is an unsurpassed graphical presentation of information, in the correct context, with extensive tools to filter and search the data displayed on the map, to give the pilot the best possible information at the best possible time.  This leads to better management of the avalanche of information flowing into the cockpit, better decision-making, reduction in errors, and therefore a safer, well-executed overall mission.
